I was watching the Eurovision Song Festival a few days ago and I was struck by how "non-European" most of the entries were. The winner was "the russian Justin Timberlake". For a moment there it looked as though "the Britney Spears from Greece" was gonna win but she lost momentum late in the game and ended up in third place.
It was all a sad display that reeked of politics and product placement.
A "you-scratch-my-back-i'll-scratch-yours" kinda thing.
But I am cynical enough to know that sadly, this is the way things work.
It's not actual ability, but the ability to sell yourself that is gonna get you through the day.
You can be completely devoid of any talent, but if you just play the part and look the part,
you're most likely to have the masses flocking behind with their dollars and euros burning holes in their pockets.
We're so eager to believe in things "larger-than-life" that anything showing any real culture and depth gets brushed off and cast aside. We want things that are easy to digest and easily identifiable. It's constant dèjá-vu on television.
We don't want to think, we just want someone to tell us what is good so we can go out and buy it.

it's like peeing your pants on the first day of school. doesn't matter what you do from then on,
or what you become,...you will allways be that guy who pissed his pants on the first day of school.
life sometimes is hard,...and unfair,.....
but thankfully though, in this virtual cafeteria of blogs and web 2.0, there is the ever useful "edit" button.
a lifesaver for those who speak first and think later.
and for those of us who find our foot perpetually dwelling in our mouth, we've been given a second chance
we have the luxury of a million first impressions just a click and a drag away
embarrassing mistakes and foolish faux pas are a thing of the past
now we can construct and deconstruct our conversations at will
we'll all be cool as The Fonz, while scrutinizing fonts,...ariel bold or underscored, comic sans italic, helvetica,
times new roman, verdana and even webdings
the possibilities are endless
what an age we live in.
